Botswana is a small country in central Africa. It’s not often in the news because it has a stable government, little corruption, a well managed economy and a proud people. These things seldom make the news, so most of us don’t know much about this country and its people. Scottish author Alexander McCall Smith grew up in neighboring Zimbabwe, became a law professor in Scotland, and returned to Africa to help set up a law school at the University of Botswana. He has written a best selling series of delightful novels set in Botswana called “The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency.” His stories give interesting insights into the people, the culture, the landscape and the problems of Botswana.
If you would like to take a trip to Botswana with us, plan to come to St. John’s Parish Hall on Wednesday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. We will take a video tour of the country led by Alexander McCall Smith, peruse some of his novels, and have a taste of bush tea, the favorite drink and inspiration of the No. 1 Lady Detective Mma Ramotswe. Please let us know if you plan to join us so we can have enough bush tea for all.
